What happens when people in authority make muddle headed decisions?
King Solomon wrote these two proverbs three thousand years ago to answer this question. The first proverb is this.
Where there is no expertise, a nation fails
For safety lies in many advisors (Proverb 11:14)
Verse 14b expresses confidence in the decision which is reached in cabinet or committee, when a number of men have put their heads together, and suggests further that the wider the consensus, the better is the quality of the advice or policy likely to be. (Proverbs Mc Kane)
In the close split 5-4 decision made, Chief Justice Thomas said this.
“[T]his court is not a legislature,” he wrote. “Whether same-sex marriage is a good idea should be of no concern to us. Under the Constitution, judges have power to say what the law is, not what it should be.”
The second proverb is this.
It is for his good sense that a man is praised,
But a muddle headed person is a laughing stock. (Proverb 12:8)
Verse 8 is set in the same frame of intellectual values. As I have pointed out elsewhere, wisdom is a grasp of affairs, with competence and success, and in all these respects betrays the practical tendency of the language of old wisdom. The antithesis of v.8 is thus constituted by lack of intellectual grasp and muddle-headedness. Intellectual clarity and incisiveness make a man master of a situation and win him acclaim, while confused thinking bring him into contempt. (Proverb 12:8)
You can decide for yourself whether it is better to cry or laugh about the decision made by the Supreme committee of Eastern lawyers. King Solomon also wrote this verse about times in life.
A time to weep and a time to laugh.
In a past time, people both laughed and cried when the Supreme Court made their now considered muddle headed Jim Crow decision.

How the Supreme Court’s conservatives explained their votes against gay marriage
I am weeping and agree with Chief Justice Roberts. Be blessed and thanks for sharing wisdom.

I like the first quote about interpreting the law-not saying what it shoud be. Now it is important more than ever to teach children and grandchildren how to make moral decisions. Just because an action is permitted in society doesn’t mean the action is morally acceptable. This can be confusing to children and a challenge for adults. Solomon had the same challenges.

I am weeping as well. Someone on Facebook commented. “You don’t get higher than the Supreme Court.”
I wonder what God thinks of that.

I’m relieved that in the UK, a supposedly Christian country, we are more inclined to follow secular, logical, arguments and make decisions that allow for equality for those of us born female, or born gay, or both. Unlike the USA which claims to separate church and state and yet still tries to force religiously motivated opinions to negatively impact on people’s lives. Finally allowing same sex marriage looks like Americans, and the Irish, are at last growing beyond patriarchal nonsense and outdated notions of how people should be allowed to live.

It is good to express your point of view. Thanks for your comment. I really do not think anyone’s personal opinion will change by the court decision Time will tell though. In the meantime If you are gay, I recommend you to be cognizant of the health risks associated with gay sexual practises.

If they are friends, perhaps you may want to inform them that today is the USA government HIV day to call attention to HIV .
There are presently 1.2 million people in the USA afflicted with HIV and another 1 in 6 more are not even aware they also have HIV. The average new cases each year are running at 50,000 per year. in the USA. Everyone infected with HIV will pay an average $500, 000.00 for drugs in their lifetime to booster their compromised immunity system.
When you consider that gays only comprise an estimated 2 – 5 percent of the present US population of 320 million. This is a huge health risk of STD they are subjected to.
Tell your friends to marry and stay faithful to each other to reduce their risks.. Also tell them there are a host of other STD risks that are the result of gay encounters.

I am one of those who weep for my country. Muddle-headed does not begin to describe this decision. It is evil. Even if they had good intentions (and I doubt that), they broke their oath of office. That quote from Thomas says as much.
“[T]his court is not a legislature,” he wrote. “Whether same-sex marriage is a good idea should be of no concern to us. Under the Constitution, judges have power to say what the law is, not what it should be.”
And it goes downhill from there. These judges, who are suppose to constrain others to follow the dictates of the Constitution, have become virtually indifferent to what it says. The same is true of our Congress and our President, and that is because our people no longer seem to care.
