Would using math and physics formulas help reduce Chicago Violence?
Politicians, Police, Social Workers, Illinois Legislators, Clergy, Teachers, Parents, Residents, and Judges all seem to know what the underlining problems are, yet they languish on implementing remedies.
“That brings us to the Mathematical Universe Hypothesis, which states that our external physical reality is a mathematical structure.”
For example, the reality of the Chicago Police complaining about making arrests of repeat gun violators only to be quickly released from jail. Would relating the problem to mathematics help Legislators decide the question whether or not longer sentences would reduce repeat gun offenders?
Math Hypothesis Formula
X equals 14 years. (The average age of shooting victims is 18 to 34 or 14 years.)
Y equals 7 years. (The present prison term for repeat gun offenders.)
X minus y = 7
Math Conclusion Theorem
Adding 7 years to the average sentence will result in a significant reduction of criminals 18 to 34 years to be available to commit crimes, or be involved in shootings.
King Solomon
When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong. (Ecclesiastes 8:11 NIV)
As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly. (Proverb 26:11)
In My Next Post
I will relate a Physic Formula of a ball rolling down a angle plane for politicians to consider what they could do to decrease the velocity of Chicago Violence.
You Decide
Could this external physical reality math structure hypothesis be a basis for reasoning for Illinois Legislators to make a decision whether or not to extend jail time to reduce the reality of repeat gun offenders returning to add to the number of Chicago Shootings?

Tegmark is overstating his case somewhat. The universe is God’s creation. Because God is not the author of confusion, His creations behave logically. So we can model the universe with mathematics.
Consider.
Tegmark would have us believe the universe is mathematics. Buddhists and Hindus would have us believe everything is god, that in each of us is god, that the individual reality we perceive is an illusion.
The universe is what it is. We can study it and because God created it we can learn something about the nature of its Creator, but neither our thoughts or our tools define God’s Creation. The universe is whatever God made it to be.
Mathematics has its limits. It does not provide the means for dealing with intangibles such as love and justice. With mathematics, we can only determine aspects of the truth. To a limited extent we have the capacity to model the relationship between cause and effect. Sometimes, when we model the passage of a spacecraft from earth to the moon, that works wonderfully well. In other cases, such as the motivation for a crime, we don’t know where to start. So we substitute, empathy for mathematics. What we often forget to do is to properly empathize with the victim as well as the criminal.
Still, I agree with one thing your suggestion. If we want less violent crime, we should keep violent offenders in jail longer.

I concur. I do not believe math encompasses all the mysteries of the universe. I decided to use math as a tool to try to relate some interest or attention to the violence issues that occur in Chicago.
Seems another problem of apathy also relates to the issues. Perhaps it is because the “Ball” has become so huge to roll back up on the “tilted surface” in Chicago.
