Which politician or political party would best be described as pragmatic or incurable romantics?
The Purpose of This Post
Is to compare the wisdom or folly of political promises being made in the news by incurable romantic politicians’ imaginary visions instead of pragmatic facts based on economic reality,
Definitions – Merriam-Webster
Incurable: relating to matters of fact or practical affairs often to the exclusion of intellectual or artistic matters: practical as opposed to idealistic
Romantic: consisting of or resembling a romance
2: having no basis in fact:IMAGINARY
3: impractical in conception or plan:VISIONARY
4a: marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized
Pragmatic: relating to matters of fact or practical affairs often to the exclusion of intellectual or artistic matters: practical as opposed to idealistic
King Solomon
The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. (Proverb 10:14)
Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. (Proverb 23:9)
Victor Hugo
“What matters deafness of the ear, when the mind hears? The one true deafness, the incurable deafness, is that of the mind.”
What’s My Point?
Both men could easily be described to be “incurable romantics” based on the folly of the numbers and influences of women in their lives. However, both men displayed wisdom in regards to their profound and prolific philosophical writings during their lifetimes.
King Solomon was considered the wisest man in the world according to the Bible. Victor Hugo was beloved in France for his romantic and compassionate novels such as Les Misérables, written during the Romantic Movement era in history.
Their above sayings appear to prove that both men encountered, observed, and discerned at some time people who could hear but not listen. The implication being that they considered these people as fools incapable to gather knowledge necessary to discern wise choices because their minds were closed to understanding the potential folly of their choices or goals.
My point is that the USA presently owes 22 trillion dollars of National Debt and in time the interest payments will exceed tax revenues. In spite of the present massive debt, politicians are proposing new social and environmental programs benefits that will add additional, even massive amounts to the National Debt.
In other words, we have politicians who are not pragmatic. They are instead incurable romantics proposing idealist, imaginary, unrealistic visionary plans bearing no relationship to affordability even if the wealthiest in our country paid 90 percent tax brackets.
The above Proverb implies a warning that people who do not hear and discern may result in their ruin over time. However, conversely. in my opinion, based on the present National Debt, it might by wise not to hear promises being made by incurable romantics.
If Interested,
Read the Source Links Below and a Previous Post pragmatic suggestion how to pay down the National Debt.
You Decide
Will you vote for a pragmatic or romantic politician visionary in 2020?
If you choose an incurable romantic political candidate, would it be wise to ask them to reveal how they propose to pay for their imaginary romantic visions?
Will any of them even hear or listen to any question how they propose to pay down the National Debt?
Conversely, would it be better if we voters just close our ears and minds when an incurable romantic politician attempts to romance us with promises that bear no relationship to pragmatic reality to prevent economic ruin of our Republic, and/or more or less Miserableness for our posterity?

Nice application of “incurable romantic”, Rudy. I’d not necessarily disagree with your application.

Tom,
I read your comment and Doug’s reply that it was a “slap” which I frankly don’t understand. I meant it only to be my opinion.
Oh well, guess Doug has a sensitive side.

I don’t think Doug understands what he means by “slap”. Sometimes we speak just to hear ourselves talk.

Doug,
Since you agree with the application, will you agree with the following?
There is nothing wrong with being an incurable romantic with ideals, visions, and imagination, providing a person is a wise rather than a foolish incurable romantic.
The line between is not being pragmatic about the facts that when you make suggestions or follow dream paths, you have included the facts that costs are involved that must also be addressed so as not to be considered a foolish incurable romantic.
As for the romance side of an incurable romantic, the same wise or foolish adjectives apply.
In other words, the main difference is a human trait of human versatility in thoughts and opinions, choices, etc. etc.
Regards and good will blogging.
PS Thanks for your comment to compliment me as being an incurable romantic which resulted in this post, hopefully, a wise rather than foolish one.

New York Times is a silly source. The determinedly put a Democrat spin on things. Despite the pictures of military hardware, most of government spending involved health, education, and welfare programs. Defense is only about a quarter of the Federal Budget. Quoting Senator Mark Warner as some kind of deficit hawk is just absurd.

Tom,
Thanks for your comment on the NY Times. Frankly, I was not aware the article had political slant or bias. I only chose it because of the charts that indicated how the interest on Government borrowing will grow in the future to exceed tax revenues which is the main focus of my post.
I deleted the NY times and switched to another article which explains the problem future generations will be confronted with if the debt continues to accumulate.
Sadly, since the majority of debt is owned by USA holders,. In time, the debt will diminish the value of all USA dollars, in my opinion.

I was not trying to get you to stop using the NYT article, but that’s okay.
Every news organization has a bias. What is maddening about the NYT is that it is deceitful to mislead people, and they do. Why? At this point I don’t understand it. Who really gains if we destroy our country, that is effectively what some people are proposing. Just so they can be king of a dung-heap? That’s what it looks like.

Tom,
The source I selected to replace the NY Times is much more informative with links to help explain the pros and cons of the National Debt.

I was expressing our respective “slaps” as metaphor for our continued contrasting views. In fact, I was more thinking as I wrote that, that Tom and I have thrown so much at each other that we were bound to have something stick to which we found agreement.

Tom and you do appear to have contrasting opinions for readers to ponder whether wise or foolish. Or even entertaining?

I suppose the fact that anyone would “ponder” anything I say in this venue is a plus on it’s own merit. There’s no guarantee that the “pondering” will culminate in agreement… but the process works for me until I tire of it., as I suspect is the same for all us bloggers.

Doug,
People usually tire of entertainment after a while. If they are tired of their job, but need the money, they don’t have the same choice as turning off a TV.
Your comment reminds me of another Trump tweet about SNL which is not longer entertainment in my opinion. For some people though it is for reasons I cant comprehend and will probably write a blog post based on a columnist article I read today..
As for blogging, I noticed over the past three years how many people have ended their blogs.

Take it as face value positive remark by me, Rudy. No need to over analyze it. 🙂

Doug,
I did take it to be a compliment. I also analyzed it to make readers aware that wise and foolish adjectives should be considered for every human trait.

In regards to your question about the pragmatic or romantic and which I would vote for, my response is neither. I will not vote on a new Caesar or a lesser henchman and will instead focus my energy on reaching the lost stuck in this world with knowledge of a greater world to come accessible through belief in Jesus and in so doing, remove them from the shackles of present politics.
The devil’s grasp on the worldly powers is not going to end until Jesus returns, therefore I have no interest in furthering his ends by supporting government in any capacity whatsoever.
