Does God or man decide who will live a long life?

In a previous reclog post titled, King Solomon, King Solomon, Wise Guy Tip, a verse read: “ 3:14 And if [note the condition] you walk in my ways [walk in accordance with God’s will] and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, [this was dependent on whether Solomon walked in God’s ways and obeyed His Word] I will give you a long life.”

The Purpose of This Post

Is to elaborate the explanation of this verse in relation to the conundrum, “Does God or man decide who will live a long life.”

King Solomon

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings. (Proverb 25:2)

Excerpts

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, Secret things belong unto him, and they are kept so by him: many things which he does reveal,

but the honor of kings is to search out a matter; to investigate everything relating to civil government, and that may be of use to them in the exercise of it;

What’s My Point?

In our type of government, we voters are basically given freedom, same as ancient kings, to decide our own choices in life. In other words, it is up to us to investigate everything and pass judgement, obey rule, gain immortal honor, and perhaps even long life.

The conundrum I posed then is to wonder what God’s role is in regard to deciding if we live a long life. The above proverb states we will never understand God’s mysteries of how judges who will live a long life. Yet it also states it is the “honor of kings to search out a matter.”

In other words, if we search and find medical truths that reveal paths to long life, “and do not walk in God’s ways,” can this be construed to mean that we share in the decision of how long we will live? If so, did God give us any help or instructions to help us to live a long life?

And what about natural and man-made disasters or accidents, that occur in death?

I believe the answer is revealed in this proverb.

Long life is in her (Wisdom’s) right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. (Proverb 3:16)

In My Opinion

In a previous post, I explained how man’s free choice decisions may shorten life.

I believe there is also modern medical truths that reveal a direct correlation to man’s wise or foolish choices that lead to length of lives.

For example, no where in the Bible, the guide book of God’s ways, will you find advice to use recreational drugs, eat or drink to excess, engage in sex outside of marriage, or knowingly take unnecessary free choices decisions that have been proven by medical studies to reduce life spans.

In other words, it you take the time to learn about wisdom, you will gain better understand and knowledge how to live longer.

You Decide

Did God provide his creations clues to his mysteries when he revealed his Wisdom and Love?

Is it wise or foolish to disregard the information revealed in the Bible how to walk on either a long or short path of life by making free choices to “search out matters” before you engage in making wise or foolish decisions?

Is achieving a long life really a conundrum?

Regards and good will blogging.
