What word would you choose to best describe the present madness and folly taking place in the USA?
After reading news articles about flag burnings taking place in the USA, and then visiting a War Museum dedicated to the First Army Division on July 4, 2019, I wondered what word might best describe the madness and folly taking place in our Nation 243 years after the 1776 Revolution.
Reading the stories of the heroic actions and casualties standing alongside with a 13-year grandson while at the same time considering another 18-year-old grandson in basic training this July 4th, made me wonder about a King Solomon Proverb and this riddle.
Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind. (Ecclesiastes 1:17)
The following are clues to consider if you decide to choose a word.
Why are news articles reporting opinions that burning a Gay Pride flag is a hate crime when the Supreme Court has decided burning an American Flag is freedom of speech?
Since 1775, 2,852,951 Americn casualties have occurred in combat wars serving under the American Flag.
Supreme Court Justice Kennedy stated this opinion.
“On July 15, 2015, I read an article in the Chicago Tribune of a statement made by Justice Kennedy about his recent gay marriage Supreme Court opinion. He compared the present furor over his gay marriage decision with the flag burning furor and predicted it will calm down in time.”
Nike recalled a shoe from the market because it contained an American flag.
In a Chicago Tribune Letter to the Editor today, a writer expressed this opinion.
“This is 2019. Why are we still debating race, religion, abortion, homosexuality and so much more than should have no place in the mandates of government, but with everything to do with the personal decisions of the individuals. This is America after all. The land of the free. Have we forgotten that?
In My Opinion
“The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & velour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice.”
Government appears to be “chasing after the wind” in the USA that is waving the colors of the American Flag.
And instead of being a symbol of independence at the cost of human lives of both military members and their families, has nothing to do with what our Nations founder’s envisioned government to be involved.
Instead flag burning symbolizes madness and folly that king Solomon described 3000 years ago when he observed human behavior.
Sadly, our flag has become a symbol of the word I chose which is Con-flag-ration.
