Interested in what these two Presidents have in common, and in relation to a King Solomon Ecclesiastes Verses written 3000 years ago?
Two Chicago Tribune news articles reminded me of a King Solomon Ecclesiastes Verses. One article reported how some Democrats want to change from Capitalism to Socialism. The other article reported the present hatred of some Democrats toward President Trump, same as Abraham Lincoln experienced.
The Purpose of this Post
Is to compare the political divisiveness similarities during 1863 to today’s news, as was predicted by King Solomon, 3000 years ago.
King Solomon Ecclesiastes
1:9 What exists now is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; there is nothing truly new on earth.
1:10 Is there anything about which someone can say, “Look at this! It is new!”? It was already done long ago, before our time.
1:11 No one remembers the former events, nor will anyone remember the events that are yet to happen; they will not be remembered by the future generations.
What’s My Point?
I read a blog that compared the present political divisiveness to the Civil War. In reading a Wikiquote article of Abraham Lincolns quotes, I could not help to be amazed at the similarities of that time to the news we read today.
In other words, what King Solomon predicted about nothing ever changing under the sun seems to be repeating in today’s politics. Same as in 1863, the Democrats hated Republican Abraham Lincoln even more than they hate President Trump today. I say even more because their hatred led to the Civil War.
Chicago Tribune: Constitution
“Well, today it is Democrats who are declaring war on the Constitution. Leading Democrats are promising that, if elected in 2020, they will abolish the electoral college and might also pack the Supreme Court with liberal justices — allowing them to marginalize Americans who do not support their increasingly radical agenda and impose it on an unwilling nation.”
“Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties. And not to Democrats alone do I make this appeal, but to all who love these great and true principles.”
Chicago Tribune Capitalism
“Meanwhile, a recent survey conducted by the Harris Poll showed a growing number of young people favor socialism over capitalism.”
“I don’t believe in a law to prevent a man from getting rich; it would do more harm than good. So, while we do not propose any war upon capital, we do wish to allow the humblest man an equal chance to get rich with everybody else. When one starts poor, as most do in the race of life, free society is such that he knows he can better his condition; he knows that there is no fixed condition of labor, for his whole life.”
In My Opinion
Hopefully the hatred will only result in the verbal “stone throwing” taking place now between the political parties rather than bullets in the Civil War.
Read the Chicago Tribune news articles to compare to the above two examples. Read the Wikiquote of Abraham Lincoln and compare the two recent news topics. Also included is a Previous Post to explain “stone throwing,” and the About of my blog, and a tax recommendation to distribute wealth more equitably than Socialism.
Was King Solomon correct in his verses that each new generation will forget the past and repeat the same mistakes of previous generations.
If you are not aware how the Democrats hated Abraham Lincoln, check out the Abraham Lincoln museum in Springfield Illinois and read the news articles on display.
Do you believe there is presently a similar divisiveness taking place in todays new about the hatred of the Democrats toward President Trump?
Do you believe we will ever wise up and stop repeating the same follies of previous generations as King Solomon observed and predicted?
