Is it the new norm Congress to choose to snub the shaking hands tradition?
The Chicago Tribune article titled, Snubbing handshakes more common as norms fade away, reported Trump turning away from Pelosi outstretched handshake.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to question if it is wise or foolish for politicians to shake hands with someone who hates you.
23Like glaze covering an earthen vessel
are burningb lips and a wicked heart.
24A hateful man disguises himself with his speech,
but he lays up deceit in his heart.
25When he speaks graciously, do not believe him,
for seven abominations fill his heart.
26Though his hatred is concealed by deception,
his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27He who digs a pit will fall into it,
and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.
28A lying tongue hates those it crushes,
and a flattering mouth causes ruin. (Proverbs 26)
What’s My Point?
The above proverb gives warning to be wise and knowledgeable about people who disguise what is really in their hearts when they greet you.
However, we have to be a fool to not know what is in the heart of Pelosi when she greets Trump on national news or in an assembly.
The question of whether it is wise or foolish to refuse an out stretched hand from your enemy, or to just ignore a person who extends their hand in the same way a flattering mouth causes you ruin.
In My Opinion
Although I personally prefer politicians, whether sincere or empty suits would shake hands with each other as a tradition of peace, I wonder if there is any point in shaking hands with someone you know to be your enemy. When unfortunately, their heart and actions have visibly in view, same as a weapon, to erase and doubt or opportunity of ever achieving a peaceful relationship between them.
However, the norms have changed ever since President Trump was elected by voter who decided in 2016 then did not want another “normal” empty suit politician in office.
Perhaps that is why he purposely did not shake her hand. Or perhaps he remembered the last time he shook her penguin handshake and has decided since she has unveiled her heart, there is no point playing any more games of politics with her anymore.
In either perhaps, in my opinion, the 2020 election is now months away, and voters will decide which leader they will choose or shake hands with for the next four years.
Read an article in the Source Links below and the ending statement Pelosi made why she believes she deserves being chosen as leader of the House of Representative.
“Well, I am a master legislator, I am a strategic, politically astute leader, and that is why I am able to attract the support that I do.”
Based on President Trumps record of achievements in his three years in office, do you believe President Trump is another empty suit politician.
Which “strategic, politically astute” leader and/or political party will you be “attracted” and choose in 2020 based on their achievements and promises made during their terms.
Will your choice be wise or foolish in time?
Regards and goodwill blogging.
