Is the idiom: “Out of Sight Out of Mind,” Wisdom or Folly?
The Chicago Tribune article titled, Treatment Center Protests Pot Shop, reported this statement.
There are only two outcomes of substance use disorder. Either you get better or you die.”
The Purpose of This Post
Is to question the wisdom of having a pot store in your neighborhood whether you are already a drug addict or not.
King Solomon
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death. (Proverb 16:25)
Definition of out of sight, out of mind (Merriam Webster)
—used to mean that a person stops thinking about something or someone if he or she does not see that thing or person for a period of time
What’s My Point?
There are pros and cons of having a pot shop or a neighborhood bar in your neighborhood.
It increases foot traffic which helps seller’s opportunity to profit.
It also increases the opportunity to obtain pot for new users.
In My Opinion
In a neighborhood with 400 addicts a day visiting a drug rehab center trying to save drug addicts from death, having a pot shop they can see, according to the idiom is same as helping them to die.
The same circumstance for a community to choose to allow sales of recreational pot in their neighborhood or be a NIMBY, not in my neighborhood is a wise rather than foolish choice.

You Decide
How would you vote or choose if you are a parent or family member of a drug addict to agree to allow pot seller foot traffic into your community?
Will a pot shop be seen by a drug addict the same way as a pair of pink shoes or a pink elephant?

the issue should be, not the make of car, but the speed of the car, as the crash happens from too much speed, it’s the same with pot, there have been chemical hybrids, strains that were created to magnify the THC affect. Do you allow a novice driver on the highway, do you just apply one rule. If addiction is the mindset and worry, perhaps turning of the TV for three hours a day would help more, than worrying about pot. As scripture says, God put everything on the planet for proper use; it’s humans who add the chemicals. Hope your day goes well; the pot issue is small cheese compared to the dwindling environment for the safety of children online.

Thanks for your comment. I agree you are right about this issue being small in comparison to other issues in our Nation and World.
It reminded me though of another idiom every parent will realize in time.
“Small children, small problems, Big children, big problems.
In other words, raising children in a neighborhood that has a candy store available or when they grow up a pot shop only does not help parents of small problems of a child eating candy or becoming a big problem of becoming a drug addict. Or as the song verse stated, “little things mean a lot.”
It is all a matter of perspective in the eyes of the beholder.
To add to the perspective of my post, I added another question in my post after reading your comment, if interested,
Thanks again for your comment.

blessings rudy, it’s time all the difficult issues were tackled, so many addicted to sex, the youth in particular, how society tries to confine the fire without dealing with the source. Pot is pot, but when mixed with alcohol, it can become toxic, and as you say rightly, when you start too young, there are huge issues later perhaps, amen
