Should the USA emulate Hungary to help quarantine gossip and misinformation?
The Chicago Tribune – AP news article titled, Virus Used to Quell Dissent, reported:
The law sets up to five years imprisonment if convicted for spreading false information about the coronavirus pandemic………….
The Purpose of This Post
Is to discern the effects in the USA if this same law was enacted?
King Solomon
Without wood, a fire goes out; without gossip, a conflict cease. (Proverb 26:20)
What’s My Point?
Frankly, when I read this one sentence and considered the consequence of this law being enacted in the USA, all I could do is smile.
My point is to wonder how many people in the USA would wind up in jail if this law was enacted?
In My Opinion
If you ever experienced being deep in a wooded area, you would be able to relate the total silence that occurs in an area where there is a lot of wood growing around you instead of being used to spread the fire of gossip, lies, disinformation, etc. etc.
In other words, if this law was enforced in the USA, the silence would be deafening in my opinion.
If Interested,
Read the Source Link below of what is actually occurring around the world in response to the pandemic.
You Decide
If after reading, did you smile have to smile too when you discerned how much gossip etc. is sadly being spread in the news in the USA?
Would teaching Bible verses about gossip help quarantine misinformation being spread in the USA?

Bible Verses About Gossip

Hungary is accustomed to living under an authoritarian government.
Kind of curious what qualifies as “misinformation”?
I’m assuming the anointed “experts” are safe?
Because the FDA was claiming hand sanitizer doesn’t kill viruses just two months ago.
And the CDC was saying masks don’t work.
There’s a LOT of misinformation out there. From many, many different sources.

Liz,
Thanks for your comment. I agree there is a difference about misinformation, vs. unintended misinformation, or gossip?
I don’t know enough about hand sanitizers, but as for masks, in my opinion, since no one could tell if they are infected, I always felt if anything if someone was infected and sneezed or coughed, at least the vapors or droplets would be less spread about.
Because of the shortage of masks for medical personal, I wish the news would have been to suggest everyone make a mask with anything including garbage bags to contain the spread of vapors or droplets.
Common sense, in my opinion.
Then again, a lot of people are making a lot of money spreading misinformation and gossip in the USA.
Sad.

I think the misinformation about masks was intended to save masks for medical people…which is a good goal. But the way they went about it was to actually lie. In fact, if Trump had said same folks like Doug (below) would be saying “gotcha!” and quoting politico/cnn. They play “gotcha” for much less than that.
Hand sanitizer works (formula has to be over 65 percent alcohol, or something like that). That’s why they use it in hospitals. Hand washing is best, but when a sink and soap aren’t available, hand sanitizer is far better than nothing.
I think this was another attempt to stop hoarding…again, a noble goal but the FDA did give the public false information that wasn’t helpful.

Honestly, Liz, don’t ya think there’s over three years of “gotchas” Trump has done without having to assume another had to be “conjured” up?

So, here’s a test.
Google something you know to be an untrue but popular rumor.
Then google something you know to be true.
See which one has been distributed more.
There’s a reason a lie gets around the world 100 times while the truth is stuck tied up in the basement screaming.
Lies are like hydras…I’ve taken many of your political points, point by point and explained how they are taken out of context. The result is simply: “You’re a Trump worshipper!” what reason would i have to attempt to have a conversation? It’s just a waste of time.

Actually.. in that we agree. As I’ve mentioned before, in blogging no one changes their minds, modifies their opinions, and these days, truths are ignored in favor of alternative-lies. We prefer hearing/reading the echoes that affirm our own pontifications. Having a blog makes me a member of this same universe. There is no right, no wrong, just consequences.

Actually.. if such a law were enacted, and we still had our existing juris prudence to defend against such charges… we would indeed be able to separate what Trump supporters call “fake” when in actuality it’s “negative” but true, at least with the mainstream media. It would also present all of Trump’s lies as being true lies.
You think this law, if applied here in America, would somehow “cleanse” the media… when in fact, it would just confirm what the media has been saying all along. Be careful what you wish for.

Doug,
I doubt it could ever be enacted in the USA,
If it would, I wonder how it would appear on a balance scale between the Democrat vs. Republican platforms sides.
Or how many acres and acres of jails would need to be built?
Oh well?.

I beg to disagree with you. I believe if a person has a closed mind or is not versatile, they may fit your statement.
Frankly, I doubt you will believe my next statement which is I would vote for either political party or candidate if what they present is a better solution to the USA problems,
However, I doubt either party will totally agree with my first solution to make all politicians more open minded and versatile. Term Limits.
So I will have to vote again to vote for the politician closest to what most voters do, and that is to choose who we believe will do less damage to the USA if elected.

Well, that’s all fine.. except in God’s great wisdom He created humans to be of infinite variety and subject to experiences of life and nature vs. nurture. We all reason in different ways and we all reach conclusions in different ways. I have no doubt you would vote for someone who chooses “less damage” to our country… but you have to remember, one person’s idea of “damage” is another person’s idea of great success.
Now, with that, I might interpret your idea of term limits as being a remedy against some elected official from doing too much damage, thus imposing a regulation against the will of the people who might wish the person stays in office. Maybe the solution is “service limits”, but that tends to suggest setting an age limit. The bottom line must be.. what exactly is the reason for setting any kind of limit in the first place, and does it favor the democratic process or is it an attempt to bias one side or the other? The GOP after the war didn’t want a long reigning Democratic President again after FDR so they set that limit to two terms. For a few years I personally thought some consideration should be given to a single 6 year term… with an additional 2 more years as an “extension”, by Congressional vote… but given Trump holding the office, 4 years is enough for me… and let’s leave well-enough alone.
To your perception of a truly open-minded person appreciating political blogs of all political persuasions, and is willing to change their own opinions along the way… one might presume that could be any of us, but we all have different levels of being convinced. But our current divide is basically over ideology and not issues. If I say I am a Liberal… and you dislike any Liberal ideological concepts.. then to you all Liberals suck.. end of story and nothing I could say would sway you at all. Conversely, the current state of political affairs labels anyone in the GOP as a Trump supporter… and not even buying into the “look at all the good he’s done” argument. We are stuck in our separate corners.
I can only answer for myself… in my case I will follow Conservative blogs… and many I do not post replies at all… simply to stay current on the latest alternate opinion.

Doug,
Rather than try to debate the reasons President George Washington and myself believe about the reasons for term limits, try to imagine President Trump will remain in office for the same time as Nancy Pelosi has been in office.
Then ask why it is, that previous legislators voted for term limits for the President, but not themselves?.
Kinda like a tinge of hypocrisy, yes, no?
Or perhaps they were afraid about “damage” that could result to the USA if Presidents do not have term limits, but not them?
