What is the difference between common sense and wisdom?
The Chicago Tribune has numerous articles about the Illinois Governor May 1st requirement to wear masks to protect against the Covid-19 pandemic to avoid either spreading or becoming infected.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate ancient wisdom to explain the difference between common sense, a form of practical wisdom and Spiritual Wisdom of the Bible.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverb 9:10)
She (Wisdom) is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways and all her paths are peace. (Proverbs 3:15-17)
What’s My Point?
King Solomon obtained a reputation for being the wisest man in the world. He was purported to know from memory 3000 proverbs that range from common sense, practical and spiritual wisdom.
Most anyone interested in studying his writings and spending time to understand the numerous interpretations of their meanings, will benefit both financially spiritually and hopefully live a longer life.
My point is common sense can be related to the terminology of practical wisdom. However, to strive to achieve the highest step to wisdom requires understanding and knowledge of the Holy One according to King Solomon along with both the “bright lights” and “dark sayings.”..
In My Opinion
Anyone who discerned the reports of studies that Covid-19 was transmitted in the form of aerosol droplets from an infected person, and had common sense, should have understood that wearing a mask, although not a totally prefect solution, would be better than wearing nothing to contain the spread of the droplets.
Or as an old idiom stated, a bird in hand is better than two birds in the bush.
