Is it wise or foolish to evict renters or home mortgage holders during a pandemic? What should or could be done instead?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: An ‘avalanche of evictions’ on the way, reports the plight of people who cannot pay their rent or mortgage because they were laid off during the pandemic. Another article is titled: First Major Lawsuit, reported a downtown business is being sued for unpaid rent because the renter was ordered to not allow workers to work during the quarantine.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient wisdom proverbs to the problem and make a suggestion what should or could be done instead of creating an avalanche of evictions instead of a government bailout of $100 billion proposed in the next relief bill backed by the House.
Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court,
23for the LORD will take up their case and will plunder those who rob them. (Proverb 22:23)
if you find honey, eat just enough– too much of it, and you will vomit. (Proverb 25:16)
The full soul loathes a honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.… (Proverb 27:7)
What’s My Point?
When Governor Pritzker closed schools in Illinois because of Force majeure or an act of God.
However, no one knows if it was God or people eating wild animals that created the pandemic.
Regardless, if government decides it is prudent to mandate a quarantine and close down businesses, renters cannot pay rent or mortgages.
My point is since God has been declared responsible by the Governor, then according to the proverbs we should heed God’s wishes according to the proverb’s instructions to not exploit the poor and crush them in court..
The reason according to the proverbs will be because it is for the souls of the rich who may have no need to pick up a dropped honeycomb, or too eat too much honey can make them sick, the poor will find the honeycomb sweet.
In My Opinion
Owners of properties should be allowed to reduce their mortgages to lenders until the pandemic is declared over by the government who mandated the quarantine.
The result will be less profits (honey) to lenders for the time period. However, since the majority of people who lend money have more money (honey than they can eat) to lend, they are in a better position to survive than the poor who do not have money to lend.
Hopefully government can set up a simple way for people to claim Force majeure and dismiss claims.
Hopefully, everybody should sue China, a Nation that does not believe in God, for all their losses and let the courts decide who is really responsible for the pandemic.
Frankly, my use of the above proverbs is probably “a stretch” of the original proverbs Bible meanings, or is it?

“A stretch, or is it?”
Is ny opinion based on socialism or Christianity, or common sense to avoid numerous lawsuits and court time to be born in full or part by taxpayers/?
Is it my imagination that the Illinois Governor blamed God so government employees will continue to be paid while private employers and employees, renters, mortgage borrowers for the most have to go to government courts or subsidies for losses>
Will God judge their cases at some time as the above proverb states?
Regards and good will blogging.
