Why drug addicts can’t take a time out from drug addiction, poverty, and violence?
In a previous post titled, Is COVID-19. Our World Timeout, I made a statement that did not take into account drug addicts and triggers when I stated this question about the societal effects of the pandemic.
“Has there been a reduction in crimes, killings, or wars taking place in the USA and World as a result of the pandemic?”
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient proverb to answer why there is no such thing as a time out once a person becomes a drug addict because of “triggers.”
And to question if the triggers are the reason for the continued high rate of shootings, violence, poverty, and societal unrest taking place in the USA?
King Solomon
The Words of King Lemuel
…6Give strong drink to one who is perishing, and wine to the bitter in soul. 7Let him drink and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. 8Open your mouth for those with no voice, for the cause of all the dispossessed. (Proverbs 31:6-8)
What’s My Points?
The same misery of drugs and poverty obviously existed 3000 years ago when King Lemuel wrote the above verses.
In our contemporary times, psychologists treating drug addicts trying to quit drugs teach them to recognize the “triggers” that will break down their resistance and return to drugs.
My point is when a parent decides to instill a time out to a child to hopeful calm him down from whatever was causing his or her misbehaviors, the time out has a calming effect.
However, as I surmise in Chicago and elsewhere, because there is no such thing as a time out for a drug addict, and drug profits are a source of livelihood or escape from poverty for some, the two core factors of drugs and poverty are triggering the violence we are witnessing in the news.
In My Opinion
We need as a society to first calm down and address these two core issues which have erupted during the pandemic which is serving to exacerbate the violence.
How to accomplish these two challenges, which were recorded 3000 years ago might be give us clues what to do to help calm down and create a time out to calm down the violence.
For example, provide free drugs to drug addicts to reduce the profits and territorial gang violence triggering the shootings.
Government should finance the needed facilities for masks to provide jobs in the high poverty areas to fight both poverty and protect from the pandemic. Instead of doing what California just announced that they contracted to buy 327 million dollars to China to provide jobs to produce masks for everyone including the 2.2 million population in USA jails.

You Decide
Wise or foolish opinions?
Will the USA every wise up and start teaching the wisdom of the past in our schools to wise up our children to be aware of the triggers they will face in life once they engage in seeking pleasure from recreational drugs, the surest way to trigger both drug addictions and poverty in the lives.
When will legislations wise up and allow parents to choose schools that teach the values, they cherish by allowing school vouchers or school choice. Including the Bible wisdom and love to teach the proverbs written 3000 years ago, and the love of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago to hopefully reduce and end the triggers that keep repeating in every generation as recorded in history?

The use of substances is a symptom of a spiritual malady, with a spiritual solution. Sadly government-funded programs can’t seem to condone this solution and fail in attempting to use psychology-based regimes, which only provide information and some temporary relief, without awareness of a deeper unseen, unheard need

“without awareness of a deeper unseen, unheard need”
Thanks for your comment. I believe you described the state of mind that many of our elected legislators have a psychological condition they call “Psychological set.”
I have written a number of previous posts and opinions about “psychological set on numerous other subjects in the news.
