Will our vote be wise or foolish based on an emotion of fear or anger about a political candidate or party?
The Chicago Tribune cartoon depicting one person making a statement in the caption.
“Someday I’d like to for the better of two goods instead of the lesser of two evils.”
So how do we discern who to vote for based on right or wrong choices because in my opinion reading various news columnists reports on the upcoming 2020 election may not be the wisest choice of sources of information to help our brains discern which party or candidate is either a good or evil choice in the coming election.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient wisdom proverb and a brain article to the conundrum we Americans are faced with to either make a wise or foolish choice when we vote in the coming election.
King Solomon Blog
So, give your servant a discerning mind so he can make judicial decisions for your people and distinguish right from wrong. Otherwise no one is able to make judicial decisions for this great nation of yours. (1 Kings 3:9
Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city. (Proverb 16:32)
What’s My Point?
The two greatest motivation in life are fear and love to drive us to make wise or foolish decisions in our lives.
Both fear and love have positive and negative emotional factors that are capable of driving a person brain to make wise of foolish decisions.
“Experts still have a lot of questions about the brain’s role in a range of emotions, but they’ve pinpointed the origins of some common ones, including fear, anger, happiness, and love. “
Great leaders know how to motivate their followers by making use of their emotions to drive them to accomplish what leaders envision for their “city.”
Three thousand year ago after being appointed king to succeed his father, King Solomon prayed to ask for a describing mind to distinguish right from wrong as a leader for his “city.”
My point is in our contemporary times politicians ask for your vote to lead us. We need to pray will wail choose discerning leaders to discern what is right or wrong as our representatives in government.
In My Opinion
King Solomon prayed for wisdom and anyone who ever takes the time to discern his writings will recognize that his Creator granted his request for wisdom. Yet, being an imperfect mortal and in spite of the wisdom serves to warn us that not even the wisest men will not always make wise good rather than evil decisions.
Yet somehow as the cartoon caption implies, we have to choose a leader based on the lesser of two evils.
In my opinion, a large turnout of voters who base their votes on a foolish emotion of anger being motivated by politicians or media, rather than discernment is no guarantee that the outcome will be good for the Nation over time.
In addition, unfortunately, many voters will vote based on emotions instead of discernment because savvy politicians know which buttons to press to motivate voters to fear and anger.
So which leader should we vote for even though neither one is perfect? And as the cartoon caption stated in the eyes of the characters depicted, they will have to vote for the lessor of the two evils?
In my opinion, what needs to be discerned is the choices being offered by both Presidential candidates.
One appears to me to want to conform to the founders plans that has over the course of time has led our Nation to prosper and succeed rather than fail over time.
The other candidate is promoting change to engage in Socialism which has in recent history proven to result in failures of Nations and losses of millions of lives. Using China as an example of Socialism, the news reports how government restricts individual freedoms of choice/
In my opinion, if we do not approve of a leader because we are angered by his personal style of leadership, we need to activate our brain to make use of self-control to discern the policies he represents to control our emotions.
For example, which candidates’ policies will either preserve or change our form of government that our founders envisioned?
Is one candidate proposing changes similar to Socialism which will to result in a nanny government control instead of freedom of choices?
In other words, if Socialism has failed over time in other Nations, why will it succeed in the USA?

You Decide
Which of the perceived evils will you vote for in 2020?
Will, according to the article, our angry emotions located on one side of our brain result over time to bring about happiness to the other side of our brain?
Will the choice you make in this election prove to be wise or foolish based on self-control and discernment of the policies Bing proposed by the candidates, or based on an agree emotion?

there are so many influences today, and the world has moved on since the start, and if people are honest, empathy is rare, our ideals have been watered down somewhat. Honest electioneering is practically extinct, the use of propaganda is common place, and many people don’t even know their own minds, but if King Solomon was given the task of choosing, who you need to lead, he’d look at the overall picture, where you are heading, the health of the people, and need for global co-operation, that’s if we view the planet as our source of life. Money won’t solve the issue if you continue to consume alcohol at the same rate as before if you are a problem drinker, but having more compassionate people around you, will certainly help on all levels. Can excessive greed be good for the world, hardly, does God exist, certainly, are the signs of the times pointing up, it seems so. Whoever encourages forgiveness and puts it into practice, is more of a leader, than a thug with money who always wants his way, cheers, amen

Thank you for your comment and sharing your opinion.
While I agree we all are in need of being more virtuous and having empathy and forgiveness, we need to recognize the differences in the two political parties this year on what choice of government they intend to change and the methods they will use to implement if elected..
I wonder if your ending statement indicates you will choose a leader based on your belief; he is more empathetic even though the policies of his party are borderline Socialism.
Recommend you read up on how many in the past who chose Socialism form of government and how it resulted over time to create more “thugs” in government and less freedom and justice in the Nation.
Keep in mind that as I explained in a previous post, the same party is silent on the actions now taking place in mainly Democrat cities by thugs.
Is their silence indicate complicity of the methods they will use when their candidate wins?

thanks for your reply Rudy, in my opinion, there is a stake been driven into the heart of the american people, who are decent optimistic souls by nature, there seems to be those who are trying to show force, and discipline and power, as the means of holding the nation together, which many actually agree with, it’s almost a declaration of war before the elections, as if to say, who is strong in the face of this crisis, given the way people are misled these days, it does not surprise me, but you can’t have a gun in one hand and a holy book in the other, Peace is not possible. Personally, instead of reacting to the comments by tyrants in power, those trying to get rid of them, should focus on what the people need, and those running for office, should be able to work that out, otherwise, why are they there, best of luck in the months ahead.
