Is it any wonder that many elderly or retirees will not volunteer as polling officers this coming election because they are wise or foolish?

I read a Citizen Tom Post titled, Become and Election Officer, a blog post calling out for more election volunteers to help in the coming 2020 election.

It reminded me of a Chicago Tribune article titled: We are in uncharted waters, Illinois counties rush to find early polling sites amid looming election deadlines, Coved -19 concerns.

The Purpose of This Post

Is to relate an ancient wisdom verse to consider about the upcoming election.

King Solomon

“For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.” (Ecclesiastes 9:4)

What’s My Point?

In ancient times a dog was consider a lowly creator and a lion exhibited int their eyes a characterization of brave heroic qualities to emulate in one’s life.

My Point is many poll officers in elections are elderly retirees and they may be foolish to volunteer this year because they are more susceptible to the virus risks of the virus being a deadly conquest.

And as the above verse written 3000 years ago reminds us to be cautious with our one life granted to us about taking risks that are not wise meaningful or prudent.

In My Opinion

I wrote the following comment in Citizen Tom’s blog.

If a person who has high risk for deadly complication if they contract the virus, they are not wise to volunteer.

This year, in my opinion, the National guard or other government groups should be enlisted for one day from their normal duties instead of the usual group of retirees who volunteer.

And masks should be mandatory for all voters and available at the door and temperatures taken just like they do if you enter any hospital.

Along with many advanced opportunities to vote in polling places in city halls for voters who want to avoid standing in lines.

After all, this year is not an ordinary year so we need to make adjustments to the normal way we do things including voting.

As for mail in votes, I don’t blame Trump for being concerned about fraud after his experiences of what he has endured both before and during his term in office.”

You decide

Because of Covid-19, should elderly high-risk persons take a risk and volunteer?

If they contract the virus because of their decision, will we, their families and friends consider them to be heroes or fools?
