What is the missing element which is the core reason for ‘Truth Decay” in the USA?
The Chicago Tribune Columnist article titled: Our Democracy is fighting a bad case of truth decay’, which contained this statement.
“But we need more.”
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient verse as clues to the article which lists a number of issues such as civics education, medial bias, trust, skepticism in election results, politicians, past Gilded Ages, etc. Is needed to stop the truth decay in our Democracy.
However, in my opinion, the article failed to bring up the missing element reason of how and when reasons the decay first began the rotting process.
King Solomon – Conundrum Clues
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. (Ecclesiastes 1:2)
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverb 16:18)
Buy the truth and do not sell it– wisdom, instruction and insight as well. (Proverb 23:23)
What’s My Point?
The issue of decay can be correlated medically to a harmful bacterial or virus that once ignored will continue in time lead to greater decay.
My point is the columnist article lists numerous causes that he believes is causing ‘truth decay” in our Democracy in a similar manner a skilled physician would study to diagnose a cure to stop the decay.
Or in other words, if not diagnosed properly and multiplied exponentially over time in a population of 350 million living in the USA can result in all the issues listed by the columnists’
In My Opinion
The missing element can be correlated to State laws instituted after the civil which the Supreme Court finally ruled unconstitutional this year.
Sadly, even is a lousy year of the pandemic, this ruling is a ray of light to point a pathway in the future to address the main reasons that have been set aside by the vanity of man. Along with discernment how pride leads to destruction, same as a bacterial or virus to bring about a cure for the present ‘truth decay in our Democracy.
However, it takes time to cure the decay that has exponentially results over time in our Nation.
That is teaching our children the wisdom and love in the Bible to prevent them from making foolish choices that lead to decay on their paths of life.
The vanity of man who believes they know better than their Creator, and continues on a path of passing millions of laws which ignores the truth in belief of religion to guide them on their paths in life.
What the columnist overlooked is the core element that has of led to a decay of our Democracy to begin and persist by focusing on a whole bunch of symptoms of truth decay.
Decay in our Democracy that could have been reduced or prevented if only we would teach our children to follow the right paths in life to make wise choices based on the following verse.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
In other words, the cost for public education has risen over time to no longer be affordable for parents to choose to send their children to a private religious school.
The effects have chosen to over time taken away the choices of parents of poor and middle class to afford to pay two tuitions, one for public schools and one for private religious schools.
And this missing symptom element has not been mentioned in his column.
Or, same as a dentist or doctor will use a device to help shed light on a decaying tooth or body in order to stop the decay, humans need a device of teaching how to use Spiritual light of the Bible?
Will teaching wisdom to children help reduce truth decay to spread to help discern mistruths being spread around by humans who desire a path to power by spreading lies in the same way as a bacterial or virus cussed decay in our society?

Will teaching in depth Spiritual instruction, regular church attendance to remind us the right path all through life help to promote wisdom of choices over time
Will teaching in depth Spiritual Wisdom to understand the differences of true love in life help us on our paths to discern the differences between love advice of human’s vs love advice from the influence of Hollywood influences and intriguers to obtain power and influence us to make decisions which may help truth decay in both body and Spirit?
“But what we really need more.” ….. is wisdom and love in our Democracy based on Christian teachings in the Bible to reduce the truth decay symptoms described by the columnist?

How does anyone, any government, any spiritual institution teach “wisdom” when the meaning of that word is an element of our current divisiveness in what “truth” means to anyone. Your definition of a spiritual “wisdom” would likely not be the same as mine.. nor would your definition of a “practical wisdom” (the “wisdom” that defines what we do to meet life’s daily challenges). So who’s “wisdom” is used to teach wisdom? Gotta start somewhere.

I would suggest we start with the wisdom of God found in Jesus. Jesus is indeed the way, the truth and the life.
Rudy has stated it well.

Doug,
You asked:” So, who’s “wisdom” is used to teach wisdom? Got to start somewhere.”
Philosophical wisdom started already in ancient times. Wisdom based on teaching children to be virtuous in life.
For Example,
King Solomon wisdom writings give advice “his son” of both practical and Spiritual Wisdom to lead a life pleasing to Yahweh.
Ancient Greek philosophers use the word virtue and included their beliefs of Greek Gods.
Jesus Christ wisdom taught Bible beliefs and moral virtue based on beliefs of God.
Problem arises in USA that no matter what secular philosophy is taught in public schools, it will not include God.
Including the belief in God has been and always be a greater incentive to strive to live a virtuous life/ to please God.
The USA future will be better if school choice or school vouchers is enacted, in my opinion.
I believe my statement can be proved with a statistical analysis of number of convicted criminals who attended private religious schools are compared against the number who attended public secular schools in their youth.
As for your question of my truth vs. your truth, if we believed and followed the teachings of Jesus Christ verse and followed His light of Jesus Christ, truth would not be as divisive as it has become in the USA.
Even the founders of our Nation understood that our Nation needs a citizenry with moral virtuous beliefs in God.
Sadly, when civics is taught in public secular schools, it is unlawful to mention God.
And teaching religion only on Sunday will never be as effective as teaching in depth understanding how to strive to live a virtuous moral path of life.

Why would you want the state, through public education, teach anyone’s children about God based on some governmental interpretation (given the influences of any number of religions in this country)? Is not religion best taught at home?

You asked, “Is not religion best taught at home?”
How effective would teaching religion at home be in a single parent household with four or five siblings in a poor poverty neighborhood, say in Chicago?
There are two scenarios I believe most people who object to school vouchers.
The first is I believe most people never attended a private religious school and having never experienced the difference between being taught religious Christian values in depth, frankly cannot understand the benefits of school vouchers.
The second is the unfairness of people who have to pay taxes all their live and not being allowed a school choice for their children especially if they are poor or middle class.
For example, the hypocrisy becomes apparent in the question of how many politicians in Washington DC have sent their kids to public schools in Washington, including the Obama’s?
In my opinion, both Blacks and Christians have long been victims of bigotry in the USA?
If interested,
Spend a couple hours reading my blogs on school vouchers and Chicago Violence.
If you care about justice, equality, and fairness for Blacks and Christians , which frankly most people apparently not, in my opinion.

PS as for your comments about Trump’s morality, you or me are not going to change Trump who is 74 years old, and ourselves..
However, you can help poor Black families and Christian’s by understanding and joining in to support school choice.

I generally think the one who decides the fool is the greater fool . But.. hey.. such is the diversity of humanity. I had life all figured out when I was 16. I even knew way more than my parents. It’s been downhill ever since.
Be careful with all that “spread the wealth” stuff there.. someone might think you were a Lefty.

Would not cost a penny more if a kid transfers from a public school to a private school.

Yet here’s the real issue at play that many people forget when it comes to “socialized” services… and by that I mean, public service for the general public good. We all pay taxes to have police protection yet one cannot decide for themselves to higher a mall cop to walk around their home.. and thus remove that part of the tax that pays for public law enforcement. One cannot say I don’t want to pay that part of my tax for public law enforcement because I have a gun and I am an ex-war hero and I can save my own butt. We pay for public education … and by “we” I mean everyone.. whether they have kids or not… because public education is good for the entire country in a myriad of ways that benefits not just the person being educated, but all citizens. Part of being a citizen is contributing to the education of all the young. So I truly have never understood this idea that I can just stop paying taxes for public education in general and shift my money over to just paying for MY kids’ education. In the same way, I can’t just decide to withhold my share of the cost of the next generation nuclear bomber from my taxes simply because I don’t agree my dollars should be spent on it. Similar to the abortion issue…. pro-life folks don’t appreciate their tax dollars paying for abortions … so do they stop paying their portion of the money that would go to that? Taxation is not like your employer’s “cafeteria-style benefits” where you can pick and choose.

Doug,
Thanks for your comment,
I agree with you about “cafeteria- style benefits ” where you pick and choose.
I think I will write a post in the future to answer your comment in greater detail..
Frankly, we already have a pick and choose taking place in the USA…… for just about everything foolish under the sun…… except for school choice.
Stay tuned.
Thanks again,

And.. if you are calling for a more “virtuous” country/world based on the Bible… that most surely has to begin in the leaders we pick being /believing/acting the same way.. yet Evangelicals have sided with Trump.. the most immoral president we’ve ever had in modern times and a total abomination as an example to our children.. and a clear and present danger to the country given all his denouncing of our electoral system with NO evidence.. and sabotaging Biden, like with the assassination of the Iraqi scientist by Trump’s friend, Netanyahu, to make re-establishing the former nuclear deal more complex. .. and Trump is not done yet with his scorched earth policy. He’s no moral example for anyone. I mean, c’mon… the logic defies explanation.
