Should Prisoners not in the 1A or 1B group or do not have high risk medical conditions be allowed a choice with an incentive to not be COVID-19 vaccinated until supplies increase?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: Illinois soon to begin vaccinating prisoners, reported this statement.
“The IDOC is not making vaccinations mandatory….”
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient proverb, and a song title and a Shakespeare verse to this issue. The issue many will consider unfair and even joke about. For example, “People in Illinois need to go break someone’s window to get arrested is the quickest way to get vaccinated in Illinois.”
There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless. (Ecclesiastes 8:14-15).
What’s My Point?
When I read the article, I better understood the issue. However, not everyone will either read or understand the issue and many will consider it unfair that criminals will be given priority over themselves to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine and the Governor is a fool.
The CDC has issued guidelines for Governors based on the higher risks of death by age or medical condition. Most people who become infected do not die and many only experience mild effects. So why offer a jailed criminal a faster route to obtain the vaccine before an older private citizen with a higher risk be a meaningless undeserving folly according to the King Solomon above verse?
Why not do as the representative suggested, give the same 1A or 1b priority to the prisoners same as non-criminals is fair.
So, what could the Governor have done instead?
In My opinion
In WWII, prisoners were given a choice along with a reward of reducing sentences for volunteering to help war efforts. The COVID-19 issue is a type of war and race against death for many.
The song titled” A Soon full of Sugar helps the medicine go down, is it a clue to what the Governor could have done, in my opinion.
Instead, most people will start joking about the decision which begs another Shakespeare recognized verse.
“Many a truth has been said in jest.”.

Is the decision made to vaccinate prisoners another Illinois jest or truth of Illinois Legislators?
Will voters remember their decision in the next election?
