Interested in a Doctors opinion about a foolish drug manufacturers peanuts settlement amount for Illinois drug user’s addiction along with a comparison of the future Illinois taxpayers will need to fund because of foolish Illinois legislation?

The Chicago Tribune article titled: Op-ed: Illinois settlement with McKinsey for role in ‘turbocharging’ opioid crisis is insufficient, reported the following statements.

“I strongly urge Illinois lawmakers to remember the silent crisis facing Illinoisans, to take an aggressive and unwavering stand against companies that methodically and callously create an environment where addiction thrives, and to support policies and funding that give Illinois communities the resources they need to support their most vulnerable.”

The Purpose of This Post

Is to relate and ancient wisdom proverb, an idiom, and my opinion of the hypocrisy of Illinois complaining the sum was insufficient, and the Doctor’s above opinion.

King Solomon

Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead. Make a level path for your feet, and all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your feet away from evil.…(Proverbs 4:25-27)

Idiom – put the genie back in the bottle

Meaning To attempt to revert a situation to how it formerly existed by containing, limiting, or repressing information, ideas, advancements, etc., that have become commonplace or public knowledge. Almost always used in the negative to denote the impossibility of such an attempt.

What’s My Point?

The Doctor’s op-ed let the genie out of the bottle. In other words, the settlement cost is peanuts compared to the cost Illinois and taxpayers will incur in the future and the evil harm the victims will have experienced from becoming addicted.

What the article does not bring up though is that even after an addict receives treatment the recidivism rate for the addict is significantly high that he or she will again become an addict again and again.

My point is at the same time Illinois is complaining about the peanuts meager 19.3-million-dollar settlement, Illinois approved recreational marijuana expansion in Illinois and ignored the CDC scientific proof that significant use will create health problems and provide a gateway to potential use of more addictive drugs.

In My Opinion,

Illinois is presently obtaining millions of dollars from the sales taxes of legalized recreational marijuana which in my opinion will be peanuts in the future compared to the costs needed in the near future to treat the significant numbers who will experience both mental and physical health problems in the future.

In other future words, Illinois legislators set their eyes on the short-term tax revenues instead of the long-term evil effects of their legislation.

In my opinion, now that the legalized recreational marijuana genie Is let out of the bottle, Illinois will experience the same issue of trying to put the genie back into the bottle.

Or in other words, the revenues from the sales of legalized recreational marijuana will be peanuts compared to the cost to subsidize the number of marijuana users who were led to a gateway to use more potent drug use, health issues and  addictions.

The legislation turbocharged the folly of the use of recreational marijuana to add more candidates to the CDC warning that 1 in 10 users will become addicted to marijuana.

As for marijuana being a gateway drug to more addictive drugs, the jury is supposedly still out because the CDC has not yet conducted a full study.

However, marijuana use has been positively proven to cause both mental and physical health problems,

Then add the following statement of the Sheriff in DuPage County

“Hendrick said 80% of inmates enter the jail with an addiction, often with mental health issues to boot.”

You Decide

Do you believe Illinois folly will ever collect enough tax funds from the turbocharged effects of legalized recreational marijuana legislation that has expanded the use in Illinois?

Or the health problems folly of marijuana smokers, same as cigarette became an addiction which affected the death of millions from lung and heart ailments deaths over time in the USA?

Regards and goodwill blogging.
