Why can’t something be done to curb the shootings in Chicago and across the USA?
A Chicago Tribune Columnist article titled: A weekend of mass shootings — from Chicago to Ohio to New Jersey— and a simple plea: Do something, contained this following ‘thought.’
“Maybe America should do something about all its shootings. I use the vague word “something” because it complements the vague word “nothing,” which is what America currently does about all its shootings.”
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient wisdom proverb, an idiot type idiom, and a question to the writers ‘thought’ process to discern.
Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life. (Proverb 16:21)
Definition of righteous – Merriam Webster
2a: morally right or justifiable righteous decision
b: arising from an outraged sense of justice or morality
If things don’t change, they will stay the same.
What’s My Point?
The majority of people being shot or doing the shootings are obviously either innocent victims or have no righteous morals.
Both types have less opportunity to achieve ‘gray hairs’ in life, or to achieve what wise King Solomon described as ‘a crown of glory’ in their lives.
My point is the obvious risk to achieve gray hairs in high crime areas in the USA can be pointed to either choosing to live or not having the choice to move out of areas of high risk, the result of lack of righteousness or morals.
In My Opinion
According to the idiom, nothing is going to change if a person or community either does nothing or becomes righteous or moral.
The innocent either have to do something to change the risk factors in their communities.
Their choices are either wise or foolish according to King Solomon.
In my opinion, a wise quick choice is to either move out from high crime areas if possible.
Or if we cannot move, to elect people who choose to protect the innocent righteous moral residents rather than the immoral non righteous residents shooting at or around them.
The wisest first step in any problem is to do what is first necessary to reduce the risks of being shot and that is to arrest the shooters to prevent them from shooting each other.
And we have to be blind not to realize that drugs are the core reason and source of profit incentives for gangs driving the shootings.
In the long run, if we consider what is the main cause of shooters is not being righteous or moral in the families and communities.
In my opinion, never having the opportunity or experience being taught in depth religious morals in youth the wisdom and love in the Bible.
This can now be changed if the communities take advantage of the recent Supreme Court decision to allow school choice or school vouchers and elect legislators to support their choices..
In other words, the writer is right. The opposite of doing something is doing nothing.
“Do something. Try everything. Treating it as normal defies logic. And living with it rots our souls.”
Wise or foolish thoughts?
Is it a wise or foolish choice to make choices in life to obtain gray hairs?
