How can we discern a true or false prophet?
When I read the headlines repots in the Chicago Tribune about the Afghanistan- Kabul conflicts of Islam terrorists, it reminded me of the messages and opinions of two blog post on the issues of the right thing to do and the conundrum of true or false prophets in power in government or religious pulpits..
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient wisdom and love Bible verses, opinions, and advices to the issue of how to discern truth from false teachings connoisseur.
King Solomon’s Entreaty –
9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” (1 Kings 3-9)
“Discernment is the ability to see things for what they really are and not for what you want them to be.”
Romans 16:17-18 ESV / 51
I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
What’ My Point?
King Solomon and Jesus Christ are is considered to be Prophets to some Islam religious sects. sects.
Both Faiths believe King Solomon to have been blessed with wisdom and wealth by God in response to his entreaty for wisdom when he was appointed King at an early age.
Christians believe Jesus Christ was greater than a prophet, He was human and divine who came to teach us to believe the truths of His teachings.
My point is to relate how we mortals can discern the difference between what is truthful or false prophets’ teachings us “to do the right thing” during our short lifespans on earth?
In My Opinion
The Bible contains numerous warning verses about false prophets who make promises similar to an empty suit politician described by King Solomon proverb:
Clouds and wind and no rain, a man who boasts about a non-existent gift. (Proverb 25:14)
The Citizen Tom post focuses on how government leaders in power can assume the role of a true or false Prophet to believe they know best the ‘right thing to do.”
Michael’s post titled: Is a true prophet’s godly life a reflection of his calling, focuses on numerous Bible verses related to his opening statement:
“, “a tree is recognized by its fruit”. When looking for “fruit,” here are specific tests to apply to any teacher to decide the accuracy of his or her teaching:
In my opinion, the answer to the conundrum as it applies to government or to a religious pulpit is to read the newspaper reports and discern if what is being ‘prophesized’ is producing something sweet for our souls rather than our vanity.
Sadly, what I read daily in the Chicago Tribune reports, is neither sweet nor hopeful about the future of souls of many in our Nation and the World.
And the main reason why is because we are not teaching our children the wisdom and love teachings in the Bible and many children grow up to enact the follies, we are reading in the news reports we are now reading.
Will school choice or school vouchers be “the right thing to do” for parents and politicians in order to produce more sweet tasting fruit for the souls of themselves and their children to provide more hope for their future of our Nation and World?
Is it wise or foolish advice for voters to discern and “test” the fruit before they vote or join with the prophets now in power in both governments and pulpit who by their words and deeds,” cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.”
Has there been sufficient Bible verse warnings and advice written for the past 3000 years to warn and help us discern this conundrum which every generation since seems to not to have been taught based on the news we read every day?
