Did Socrates give us a clue to discern how to wise up to identify who are the real culprits?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: Biden sees culprit on Ida in NJ and NJ, reported:
“Biden says the culprit behind this and other devastating disasters happening in the U.S. is climate change.”
“On Tuesday, the White House asked Congress for an additional $24 billion in disaster aid to cover the costs of Ida and other destructive weather events.”
Another article titled: Coalition rises to provide: holistic crime prevention: contained the following statement:
“If you always do what you always have done, you are l always going to get what you got: (Socrates)
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient proverb to the Socrates clue to wise up to identify the true culprits.
As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly. (Proverb 26:11)
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
What’s My Point?
If we discern the two articles, should we start considering that perhaps we need to change “what we have done before” will likely repeat to happen again in the future same as recorded in history.
If climate change is the true culprit, it will only get worse before it gets better. And, perhaps we need to discern Socrates and King Solomons observations and advice who and what is in need of change?
If we rebuild with Biden’s proposed 24 billion dollars to rebuild the affected communities the same as what has been done before methods, there is a high risk we will have to repeat the same aid when the next anthropogenic ‘culprit” repeats. Or in other words “nothing new is going to change under the sun in the USA.
Whether we believe in climate change or not, if we rebuild frame homes instead of brick in accordance to more severe hurricane or tornado codes, whether or not climate change is or is not the culprit, we are repeating the same folly of what both Socrates and King Solomon observations and words of advice and nothing is going to change in the future.
And if the USA alone attempts to reduce carbon by outsourcing manufacturing products or energy sources for use in energy in USA known to causing high carbon emissions, nothing is going to change either in the future.
Same as risks will never be reduced if we continue to live in high-risk anthropogenic areas on top of. known faults. next to volcanos, or next to rivers, lakes and oceans.
In My Opinion
Should taxpayers and everyone who buys insurance keep subsidizing rebuilding the same communities known to be repeatedly experience natural or will be subject to known climate change disasters in the future such as rising oceans.
Should we keep repeating the same follies in the USA in every generation and ignore the advices written thousands of years ago which if understood will wise us up to what King Solomon and Socrates observed we will keep doing in the above proverb?
In My Opinion,
The two major reasons this conundrum of climate change is to first identify the true culprits, which are in my opinion are foolish voters and foolish leader legislators we keep electing..
Next, we need to identify the main reason why they are foolish which is in my opinion the main reason what most fools will do such as dogs keep returning to their vomit.
And the true reason is because we do not teach our children the wisdom and love advice in the Bible to help them obtain both practical and Spiritual Wisdom paths to follow in life. Instead, same as when we never were taught or refused to listen and live up to the advice expected by past generations.
Advice needed to heed and discern practical and Spiritual lessons to focus on the real culprits who in spite of past experiences and advice of previous generations just can’t seem to “Wise Up” to understand that if we do not teach our children e.g. the following Bible verses which pertain to. earth, humans, plants, animals and insects..
Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; (Proverb 27:23)
So, if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets. Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.… (Matthew 7:11-13)
King Solomon observed 3000 years ago that not everybody will ever wise up because there never was or will be a utopia to solve this conundrum. Should we should we be “thankful” if we can at least reduce “beyond” the present madness and folly for reasons explained in an article and verse below.
Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind. (Ecclesiastes 1”17)
Will we ever wise up so as to no longer have need of what we keep repeating in every generation to ourselves and others as described in the following verse in the Bible.
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Forgive them Father for they know not what they do? (Matthew Luke 23:34)
