Should voters be required to pass a truthful ‘content’ test before voting for a candidate in an election?
Political controversy issues are still arising of the 2020 election. Issues such as active voting roles being updated and mail in ballots methods of scrutinizing them for validity, dead people voting, etc. etc.
However, in our contemporary times we seem to be overlooking that in our Democrat Republic over time the number of independent news sources and reporters have declined from news media has been reduced in number of independent voices and opinions into less than ten major networks who provide news content to individual communities and major news sources owned by Billionaires or Corporations.
Add that most people who follow news may or may not realize it, the sources they choose to listen or read can be easily identified as bias to one or another political party. In other words, people’s minds are being controlled by various mass media techniques.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient proverb, a Mark Twain quote, journalism purpose, Socrates opinion, along with the truth of o what needs to be done in our contemporary times to protect our Democrat Republic I from failing same as every experiment of Democrat Republics in history beginning with Greeks failed over time.
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. (Proverbs 12”19)
Mark Twain Quote
“If you don’t read the newspaper, you are uninformed. If you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed.”
Purpose of JournalismThe purpose of journalism is thus to provide citizens with the information they need to make the best possible decisions about their lives, their communities, their societies, and their governments.
Socrates – 375 BC
“Socrates’s point is that voting in an election is a skill, not a random intuition. And like any skill, it needs to be taught systematically to people. Letting the citizenry vote without an education is as irresponsible as putting them in charge of a trireme sailing to Samos in a storm.”
Definition of Truth – Merriam Webster
the real facts about something: the things that are true
What’s My Point?
News sources have changed over time. In our contemporary times, many people engage in social media as sources of news and facts are not being investigated by professional objective journalists are being reduced by newspapers continue to close because of loss of advertising revenues.
My point is what politicians say may not be facts and more and more people are being indoctrinated rather than informed by objective news sources.
In My Opinion
In a Citizen Tom post titled: Blatant Hypocrisy, about Vice President Harris addressing Black Religious Leaders to vote for a Virginia Governor, is an example of the hypocrisy of the present Democrats Leadership to violate the law that a Democrat President passed to intimidate religious clergy from influencing election.
Add that Socrates reservations about voters not being educated to vote as a skill and the present method a voter has to make to choose who to vote for from a listing of candidates and various offices that many have no idea of their records in office other that what they claim in bombardment of advertising a week before an election which may not be the truth.
I used to take a Chicago Tribune list of their choices of candidates they supposed investigated into the voting booth because I had no idea who or what their record in office or qualifications. That is because most people work long hours, come home to spend time with family obligations, and frankly of not have the time or interest to investigate numerous candidates running for election in their communities and Nation.
In my opinion, what is needed is what Citizen Tom organization is doing which is to send questionaries to the candidates about the issues in the local news, and providing their recommendations to voters same as the Chicago Tribune used to do. Frankly, the Chicago Tribune is under new ownership and who knows for certain if they are bias or objective on issues and candidates anymore. Or will they turn out to be what Mark Twain’s opinion.
In other words, most politicians know they can say just about anything at election time because most voters have no time to investigate if they are telling the truth.
As for Socrates concern of voters not being educated, the truth is that politicians are passing laws to dictate indoctrination of political views of controversial theories that are opposite of religious values of tier parents.
And priest and pastors are hesitant to become involved in politics because if they do, politicians may change laws that benefit funding of churches financial needs to survive.
Yet, our VP Harris blatantly addressed Black pastors even though it is unlawful which is blatant hypocrisy of the same political party that passes the law to prevent pastors or priests for influencing their congregations.
Read the Source Links below each above statement and decide if the article is the trough or lies.
Is the present political voting issue about voting rights going to benefit our Democrat Republic or politicians who know most voters have no real idea of who or what they are voting about other than bias news media opinions or political puffery and promises.
Should more organizations emulate the organization and methods of sending questions to candidates before the election and vote on their recommendations instead of whatever source they are being indoctrinated by Billionaire owners or Corporations who own the bias news stations.
For example, every school child is tested in school for a purpose to test their skills Socrates broth up 2500 years ago, yet no one is tested for the same purposes for the content of their voting skills when they vote.
Is it possible that the truth is most voters are being indoctrinated instead of being told the facts by special interest journalists instead of “The purpose of journalism is thus to provide citizens with the information they need to make the best possible decisions about their lives, their communities, their societies, and their governments?”
