“I unholstered my gun and pointed it, but I never intended to shoot him” ……???????

The Chicago Tribune article titled: Survivor pointed gun at shooter, reported the following statement.

“I was never trying to kill the defendant,” Grosskreutz said. “That was never something I was trying to do. In that moment, I was trying to preserve my own life. But doing so, also, taking the life of another is not something I am capable or comfortable of doing. It goes against almost a lifelong ethical code in regards to medicine.”

The Purpose of This Post

Is to relate an ancient wisdom proverb, and a warning of consequences everyone either “licensed to carry” both practical and Spiritual training very evidently needed in the USA

King Solomon

Like one who grabs a dog by the ears is a passerby who meddles in a quarrel not his own. Like a madman shooting firebrands and deadly arrows, so is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I was only joking!”…(Proverbs 26:17-19)

There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death. (Proverb 14:12)

What’s My Point?

Anyone licensed to carry a weapon, or make a split-second choice, needs to discern the consequences of consequences.

In My Opinion

When I read this news article, I recalled the police training I received in order to receive my certification to serve as auxiliary police officer to carry a weapon on public streets in my community.

For example, Excerpts from a police training article I googled.

“When approaching someone who’s either holding a gun or indicating that they have one, police are trained to first take cover at a safe distance and create a barrier between themselves and the other person. This usually means ducking behind the police cruiser or a building”.

“Next, officers should draw their weapons and command the suspect to drop their gun and get on the ground. The dialogue that happens between an officer and the suspect is what some experts call the most important aspect of police work.”

“If the suspect points a gun at someone, or reaches for a gun in a way that indicates they’re going to shoot, police are allowed to fire”.

In my opinion, the witness statement indicates to me that too many people with licensed to carry or not, need training to understand the consequences of what may occur when the make they make a choice to “upholstered my weapon.”

You Decide

Should we all discern the conquests of what may happen in a split second, even if we were serious or joking, when we make both practical and Spiritual choices every day in our lives.

Should it be a conundrum that everyone in their youth needs to be “afforded in depth training” needed in either a police manual…. or a Bible (School Vouchers) to understand the conquests of wise or foolish “split-second choices” they will make that can lead to death of either body or soul?
