Should the 1965 Voting Rights Bill continue to allow politicians to gerrymander racism when redistricting Congressional Maps every ten years?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: Gov. J.B. Pritzker signs into law new maps for Illinois legislature, state Supreme Court, reported:
“These district boundaries align with both the federal and state Voting Rights Acts, which help to ensure our diverse communities have electoral power and fair representation,” he said.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient wisdom proverb to the eternal quest of human behavior to obtain higher power by means of intrigue. Power obtained by intriguers to appear to protect justice and rights for the oppressed, when in truth and reality, is for officials to maintain and retain official authority and influence in a district.
He who lays plans to do evil gets the name ‘Intriguer’. (Proverb 24:8)
Definition of Intrigue –
9.the use of underhand machinations or deceitful stratagems.
10.such a machination or stratagem or a series of them; a plot or craftydealing:
What’s My Point?
The 1965 Voting Rights law Pritzker introduced a provision which was later ruled to be constitutional by the Supreme Court in regards to redistricting in relation to minorities rights in the following Report Excerpt.
Excerpt – Key Takeaways from This Report
“Congressional districts are also required to comply with Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), prohibiting any voting qualification or practice—including congressional redistricting plans—that results in the denial or abridgement of the right to vote based on race, color, or membership in a language minority. “
“However, if race is the predominant factor in the drawing of district lines, then a “strict scrutiny” standard of review applies. In 2015, in Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v. Alabama, the Supreme Court set forth standards for determining whether race is a predominant factor in creating a redistricting map when considering a Fourteenth Amendment equal protection claim.”
Excerpt – 2015 Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v. Alabama,
Justice Scalia dissented, proclaiming that the majority’s opinion produced “a sweeping holding that will have profound implications for the constitutional ideal of one person, one vote, [and] for the future of the Voting Rights Act of 1965
My point is that this 1965 VRA is the root cause for perpetuating racial divisions in the USA by identifying race in the census. Because doing so perpetuates power to be obtained by legislators to become elected based on race rather than character.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
In My Opinion
All voting district maps should be configured with only square or parallel straight-lined configurations voting districts to account for one man on vote representation changes in population that occur to prevent legislators to ‘gerrymand” voting districts to obtain and retain power by either race or political party
legislators should concern themselves to represent by issues instead of race in their districts to end racial divisiveness which has perpetuated to develop to gerrymander into districts to obtain power to be obtained based on race instead of all one man one vote common issues regardless of race.
Anyone who views a visual comparison of straight lines that appear on the map Pritzker signed and discerns the newly signed Illinois redistricting map should discern this issue and compare to the above wisdom verses along with this following observation made 3000 years ago by King Solomon.
“If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things; for one official is eyed by a higher one, and over them both are others higher still. (Ecclesiastes 5:8”)
Is it possible that there is any element of political intrigue that can easily be discerned by viewing the new 2021 redistrict map signed by Governor Pritzker?
Is it time to change back the VRA Section 2 from one man one vote into straight line voting districts reprimanding to end racial gerrymand to continue to allow legislatures to obtain and retain power based on race or political party instead of one man one vote common interests of our Nation?
