What does Putin really believe about religion and his role as leader of Russia?
The Chicago Tribune headline article titled: Shattered Peace, reports the news of Purim decision to invade Ukraine and engage Europe once again in war brings up the Conundrum of why a man of religion would make this choice or decision?.
When asked his religious views in an interview question:
IME: Do you believe in a Supreme God?
PUTIN: Do you? … There are things I believe, which should not in my position, at least, be shared with the public at large for everybody’s consumption because that would look like self-advertising or a political striptease.661
The Purpose of This Post.
Is to relate ancient wisdom verses, and a Bible verse to discern if we should consider who we question: choose to they vote for as to whether they are true believers capable of making common sense choices for their Nation based on of religious morals or atheists’ beliefs.
King Solomon
Even small children are known by their actions, so is their conduct really pure and upright? (Proverb 20:11)
He whose conduct is blameless walks in safety, but he who walks in tortuous ways is found out. (Proverb 10:9)
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves” (Matthew 7:15).
What’s My Point?
The belief in freedom of religion in our Democrat Republic must be kept separate from our Nations laws to prevent false prophets from making choices for its citizens can be related to this Bible verse.
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Mark 13:22).
My point is to wonder why Putin decision to invade Ukraine should be surprised based on his background and actions while in office.
In My Opinion
If we discern Putin’s answer to the above question in relation to the history of Christianity beliefs based on this contemporary Psychology Today statement to opinion about answering religious questions.
“The believer is allowed to evade a confrontation with our nature, that we are a god-creating species. It’s one of the things we do best and recognizing this can promote rational thinking about religious belief.”
And the perhaps reason is answered in this following statement.
“Religious education being what it is in most schools, perhaps people just don’t know what the real religious landscape looks like.”
In other words, common sense wisdom is to choose a person to vote for by their actions in our contemporary times, because if f they have never been schooled to believe in religion, when asked their religious beliefs, they will evade the question.
In my opinion, Putin does not believe in religion and because he is what he is, there never was a doubt he would in invade Ukraine based on his actions in office.

You Decide
Is it wise or foolish for the USA to allow school choice to remedy what our future leaders to better understand “what the real religious landscape looks like?” In hopes when they mature in the future they may have better prepared with the knowledge of the wisdom and love how to avoid war so as not to shatter peace.
And ditto the above except for the world?
Should anyone asked if he or she believes in God be ashamed or evasive to answer the truth of their religious beliefs may be perceived as irrational?

Just because a person lacks a public persona of being God fearing does not mean they are automatically without human morals or are unable to live by the Golden Rule. Just because someone is not a practicing Christian does not mean they are without human morality or can’t practice the Golden Rule.
As for Putin… Trump.. or any other demogogue being judged for their actions (or inactions).. they generally think they are always correct in what they do.. religion or not.

Doug,
Cant’ disagree with you.
Wonder though iif someone we vote for was a member of the KBG actions is someone we should be suspicious of in our dealings or discernment of them actually believing in the golden rules’ morality?

I suppose therein lies the basic faith in an inherent good in mankind… any given person… until such time as they do something immoral to show their real colors.
The Wehrmacht of WW2 had “Gott mit uns” (God is with us) on their belt buckles. The presumption being that to them they were doing God’s work. Following divinity seems all a matter of convenient perspective.

Some of the best humanitarians I’ve met or heard about ironically were/are atheists or agnostics who’d make better examples of many of Christ’s teachings than too many (whom I refer to as) institutional Christians (i.e. those most resistant to Christ’s fundamental teachings of non-violence, compassion and non-wealth). Conversely, some of the worst human(e) beings I’ve met or heard about are the most devout practitioners of institutional Christian theology. …
In the case of religious fanatics, though, if it wasn’t theism, a different form of fanaticism or extremist belief system could/would take its problematic place. One might look at Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge concept of the righteous society as a scary example of this. Having said that, however, I can see how there could be no greater perceived justification for, or the-end-justifies-the-means motivator of, inhumane/immoral behavior than ‘the Almighty hath willed it!’

And then we have zealots like Putin… where justification is a personal righteousness that satisfies nothing but self. But you are correct in your observation.

I don’t know about Putin, but there is a serious hazard in heavily theological people getting into high office with their dangerous disregard — and even contempt — for the natural environment. As a disturbing example of such, in the midst of yet another unprecedented Amazonian rainforest wildfire two summers ago, Brazilian president and evangelical Christian Jair Bolsonaro declared that his presidency — and, I presume, all of the formidable environmental damage he inflicts while in power — is “fulfilling a mission from God”.
Closer to home, many of Canada’s leading conservative politicians, not to mention our previous prime minister (i.e. Stephen Harper, close friend to Postmedia’s then-CEO Paul Godfrey), are/were ideologically aligned with the pro-fossil-fuel mainstream American Evangelical community and Republican Party.
Generally shared is the belief that to defend the natural environment from the planet’s greatest polluters, notably big fossil fuel, is to go against God’s will and therefore is inherently evil. Some even credit the bone-dry-vegetation areas uncontrollably burning in California each year to some divine wrath upon collective humankind’s ‘sinfulness’.
