Will prayers alone lead to peace or will prayer lead to actions required for peace?
The Chicago Tribune article titled: reported young activists want to broker peace between various gangs in Chicago shooting each other along with innocent victims.
Another article titled: Chicago pastor reacts to weekend violence, death of 7-year-old: ‘We have to take back our cities’, contained a statement:
“A message for our country is: if you are a praying person, then now is the time to pray. But prayer always comes with action,” he noted.”
If we search Google with this question: What is the root cause of violence in Chicago, we will find a host of opinions ranging from guns, drugs gangs, jobs, poverty, single parent families, etc. etc.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate a Google ancient wisdom verse, and an idiom to this conundrum
Their (Proverbs) purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. (Proverbs 1:2)
Idiom – Feed them and they will come.
If you feed them, they will come. If you feed them fluff, they might eventually stop coming. But if you feed them the meat of the Word, meaningful relationships, and deep spiritual experiences, you will find yourself growing a vibrant ministry devoted to God and His mission.
What’s My Point?
I agree with the Pastor that prayer leads to action. However, the facts in Chicago and most other high crime urban cities are because we no longer teach prayer to our youth in public secular schools, the Pastor’s plea will not be understood, or result in action.
My point is there is only one other clue word to obtain the needed action to o reduce the root cause driving most of the shootings.
In My Opinion,
The young activists who believe negotiation between the warring factions will reduce crime will not eliminate the root cause, even though they are to be commended. The reason it will not be successful is because of the following FBI statement
“Crime leaders, organized crime, gangs, and otherwise, are focused on making money.”
While prayers also lead to action, if young people have never been introduced to the Wisdom and Love in the Bible, the result is what we are now experiencing in high crime urban areas.
The only way now for the affected communities to reduce crime is to ‘discipline’ themselves to stop using drugs which is the root cause of the organized gang’s source of profits.
In other words, while prayers can lead to action, without discipline, there will never be enough actions to “‘take back our cities,” because it is profitable to sell drugs.
Or in other words, feed them and they will come idiom is applicable to feeding food, drugs, or religious faith to either take over, or nourish our cities with prayers to obtain Wisdom and Love taught in the Bible.
