Are the reasons why savvy politicians may share the same fears as ancient Socrates had about the failings of a Democrat Republic and use of voter referendums to solve issues they cannot agree upon, or are there other reasons?

The Chicago Tribune article Kansas abortion definition decision upholds true will of the people, reported the following statements:

“This was not a poll. This was an election…. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it did it for religious reasons. Abortion should not be a religious issue. It should be a decision made by a woman and her physician in a private setting…. As an obstetrician-gynecologist, I’ve always believed that abortion is a health care issue”

Referendum Legal Definition – Excerpt

It is the right to approve or reject by popular vote a measure passed upon by a legislature In the United States there are two main types of referendum: mandatory and optional.

The Purpose of This Post

Is to relate ancient wisdom verse, word meanings and the reason why Socrates had about the failings of voters deciding issues in the history of Greece in a similar way that wound up causing his death sentence. And later death of the first Democrat Republic.

King Solomon

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bearish rule, the people mourn. (Proverb 29:2)

Excerpts: Benson Commentary

The Hebrew word here used signifies to increase, either in number, or in dignity and power, … The people rejoice — For the blessed effects of their good government…the people mourn — For the oppressions and mischiefs which they feel, and for the dreadful judgments of God, which they justly fear.

Bible Meaning of Righteousness- (Google)

Righteousness is the state of moral perfection required by God to enter heaven. However, the Bible clearly states that human beings cannot achieve righteousness through their own efforts: “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin

Excerpt – Socrates Criticism of a Democrat Republic

“This is not the only criticism of the intelligence of the voting population we have from the cradle of democracy. In the later parts of the Republic, Plato suggests that democracy is one of the later stages in the decline of the ideal state.” “

Politicians are savvier about when or not to use referendums than voters for different reasons they may fear other than Socrates crticized.

What’s My Point?

In My Opinion

On the issue of abortion, there are two different reasons why, in my opinion, the Kansas referendum was approved by savvy politicians.

The First is, the main reason is because religious beliefs in the USA are waning as a result of teaching religion in public secular schools is no longer legal. The result is most poor and middle-class families can no longer afford to send their children to private religious schools to be taught in depth religious reasons against abortion. Instead, the youths were taught to believe abortion is a Constitutional Right, instead of “Let’s be honest on this issue. Abortion is choosing to kill an unborn child,” the referendum outcome might have been different.

In other words, savvy politicians allowed the abortion referendum because they do not fear the outcome of the referendum voters result would be less amenable to vote them out of office on this issue if they allowed the referendum.

The Second is again because politicians are also savvy that if a referendum on term limits would because many voters’ ratings of politicians in office are unfavorable at this time on other issues of concern by voters, which in a way is similar to the reasons Socrates criticized Democrat Republic.

Socrates believed a Democrat Republic in his time lacked educated intelligent voters. In ancient times, most voters were not educated as they are now in our contemporary times. When he later criticized the belief to n about their Gods, he was convicted by a jury and sentenced to death.

In other words, in our contemporary times, politicians fear if they allow a referendum on term limits, it might lead to their deaths and end their terms in office even though most voters are better our contemporary times mainly in government run secular schools without any classic understandings of past history of government and religious morality values about righteousness.

For example, would you consider Illinois politicians as righteous based on how they used a non-binding referendum to see how voter felt about legalized recreational marijuana after considering the facts.

First the question the politicians worded on the referendum stated this question,

“Should legalized recreational be approved to fund schools.

And when the legislators based on the reference managed to pass the Bill, allocated, less than 5 percent of the funds are allocated for school funding.

In other words, many of the politicians now in power were never taught in depth the same religious beliefs of past generations that an unborn baby has both a body and soul. The results are in our contemporary times, which all began in 1973 50 years ago, is the average age of most politicians now in office

Also, in my opinion, many voters who would vote for term limits of politicians, for the same reason politicians voted for term limits for the USA President powers. Which is that it is very difficult to win an election from an incumbent politician  with power and control of hiring and obtaining ability to obtain campaign contributions from business donors..

You Decide

Were the founders of our Nation taught classic fundamentals and history of governments and religion which influenced founders to better understand of past reasons for failures of previous attempts to establish a of Democrat Republic when they agreed to the basic principles of freedom in our Constitution.

Will our Democrat Republic in the future be better or worse when religion morals of wisdom and love in the Bible are no longer teach religious beliefs and values our founders had to our youth who grow up to be the future leader of our Nation?

Would school choice or school vouchers to allow more parents to afford to send their children to religious schools again result in more righteous politicians in office be afforded the opportunity to run for office in the future?

Should we believe all politicians in office are righteous or is there a different reasons why some people in the USA having never been introduced to the religious values of righteousness and an honest definition of abortion may  more likely to be “mourning” or “rejoicings’ the outcome of the Kansas referendum according to king Solomons above Bible wisdom proverb?
