Why this metaphor is welcome in Chicago, while in Europe, being dreaded?
Three Chicago Tribune articles in today’s news contain the clues..
A first article reports that Labor Day in Chicago signals a welcome change in crime statistics historical trend down when the wind changes from summer to winter.
A second article reports the unwelcome concerns the winter winds will add to the misery in Europe dreads because of the energy crisis as a result of the Ukraine war.
A third article reports the Chicago Mayor’s original welcoming of the first busload of immigrants. Now that a second busload has arrived just before winter is going to require additional funding is going to be another challenge in the wind for her to face.
The Purpose of This Post
Is to relate an ancient proverb, and an idiom, to this conundrum.
13And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them! 14I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be futile, a pursuit of the wind. 15What is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking cannot be counted (Ecclesiastes 1:13-15)
And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done. (Ecclesiastes 2:12)
Idiom – A cold wind blowing”
Is a metaphor for something unwelcome, or something which suggests that something unwelcome (or welcome) will follow.
What’s My Point?
We need to wise up about who is creating all the madness and folly is being created by us humans continually chasing the wind in our world and creating all the things “under the sun” that is causing our burdens.
Either human or anthropogenic burdens which keeps repeating every generation as King Solomon predicted will occur after he was gone.
In My Opinion
Wisdom was the focus of King Solomon 3000 years ago. One thousand years later Jesus Christ taught us the true meanings of Love.
If we discern the history of facts that the winds throughout the years are fairly predictable what they will bring in the seasons of life on earth
Same as burdens we must work to overcome during our life that are crooked and cannot be straightened, the main reason why should become apparent.
That is that every generation wants to do things their way instead the path of our Creator’s way.
The result is we keep repeating the same follies experienced by previous generations in history instead of following the teachings of Wisdom and Love recorded in the Bible.
In other words, the heavy burden God placed on us humans are to allow us free will to choose whether or not to follow the path of Wisdom and Love in the Bible.
And/or the result is we humans are to blame for creating the burdens we are now laboring to either welcome or dread. The same as King Solomon described as us humans chasing the winds and experiencing the madness and follies being reported every day in the news.
Regards, goodwill blogging, and happy Labor Day 2022
